Jamshedpur, March 21, 2024: The ongoing 6th National Para Badminton Championship witnessed intense competition on Day 2 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Nearly 300 knockout matches were played, showcasing the exceptional talent and determination of para badminton players from across India.
Athletes from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu particularly impressed with their strong performances.
The tournament, which began on March 19, will conclude on March 23. Around 100 more knockout matches are scheduled for tomorrow.
Organized by Tata Steel, Tata Steel Foundation, Badminton Association of India, Para Olympics Committee of India, and Jharkhand Badminton Association, the championship aims to promote inclusivity, celebrate diversity, and raise awareness about para sports in the country.
Day 2 Highlights:
- WS SU-5: Sarumathi (Tamil Nadu) defeated Koshika Devnda (Andhra Pradesh) 21-19, 21-18.
- WH 2: Abu Hubaida (Uttar Pradesh) dominated Md Sahajahan Bulbu (West Bengal) 21-5, 21-4.
- MS SH 6: Sivarajan (Tamil Nadu) overpowered Potnuru Premchand (Andhra Pradesh) 21-8, 21-10.
- WS SH 6: Lata Tai (Maharashtra) triumphed over Ruhi (Maharashtra) 21-10, 21-13.
- SL 4: Palak Kohli (Punjab) showcased her skills against Samaira Kanwat (Delhi) with a score of 21-3, 21-3.
- WH 1: Prem Ale (Maharashtra) secured a win against Anil Kumar (Maharashtra) 21-4, 21-7.
- WS SU-5: Thulasimathi Murugesan (Tamil Nadu) dominated Arati Janoba Patil (Maharashtra) 21-5, 21-8.
- WH 2: Girish Sharma (Rajasthan) defeated Santosh (Tamil Nadu) 21-13, 21-9.
In addition to the thrilling matches, participants also had the opportunity to visit the Centre for Excellence (CFE) today.
